I'd been at it a while so thought it should be ok but think it needed a bit longer based on what you have said. Great recipe though I especially love the nutella in the bottom of the cakes.

Thanks,

FrancesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-430441346293872555.post-71243420616984560992010-04-03T08:08:49.263+01:002010-04-03T08:08:49.263+01:00Hi Anonymous

You didn't whisk the sugar and whites until they were cool before adding the butter
2. (I think this one is more likely) you didn't whisk the buttercream for long enough before using it. When the butter is added the frosting becomes quite runny and sloppy - you have to whisk through this stage, it can take 10-15 minutes, but then the buttercream will thicken up. YOu shouldn't use it until you reach this stage.

Hope this helpsThe Caked Crusaderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02840224194242219981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-430441346293872555.post-76523494833542006132010-04-02T21:50:10.097+01:002010-04-02T21:50:10.097+01:00Tried making these and they are yummy but had a bi...Tried making these and they are yummy but had a bit of a problem with the icing. Are you meant to cool it after you have made it? As I put mine straight in the piping bag to ice them but it was still a bit runny and slid off the cakes a bit. Was wondering if anyone had made this icing before and had any tips?
Thanks :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-430441346293872555.post-91165010672207259062008-09-18T09:45:00.000+01:002008-09-18T09:45:00.000+01:00Oh Wow, I do approve of the cake to frosting ratio...Oh Wow, I do approve of the cake to frosting ratio!Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15094410176291432235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-430441346293872555.post-11212723057094701622008-08-21T04:18:00.000+01:002008-08-21T04:18:00.000+01:00These look super! These look super!Cakelawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17205068748520541380noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-430441346293872555.post-53981214980805010942008-08-21T04:01:00.000+01:002008-08-21T04:01:00.000+01:00Oh, yummy!
